Ronald Hickey
March 30th, 1936 - March 27th, 2014
Kernersville-Ronald David Hickey, 77, loving husband and father, passed away March 27, 2014. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on March 30, 1936, Ron was the eldest son of Edward Hickey and Harriet Deptula Hickey. Ron graduated from Cathedral Prep High School in Erie in 1954 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Gannon College, Erie, Pa, in 1959. He attended Arizona State University and received a Master of Science Degree from The College of William and Mary in Virginia in 1980. He taught mathematics in Machias, NY, Brockport, NY, and Churchville, NY. In 1965 he joined System Development Corporation which became UNISYS. He retired in 2001 after 36 years of software development and later management positions for military and FAA contracts in Havre, MT, Philadelphia, PA, Phoenix, AZ, Fallon, NV, Hampton, VA, and Washington, DC. Prior to retirement he studied to become a CPA, passing all 4 parts of the CPA exam with high scores. In 1998 he was admitted to the Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Accountancy. In 2008 he was admitted to the North Carolina State Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners. He work as a tax preparer for a total of 14 years first in Alexandria, VA, then in Kernersville, Walkertown, and High Point NC. In 2000 he became a member of the American Institute of Public Accountants (AICPA), and in 2004 he earned a Certificate of Enrollment from the Internal Revenue Service to become an Enrolled Agent. He is survived by his wife, Judith Anderson Hickey, a daughter, Dawn H. Morgan and husband Eric of Kernersville, a son David Michael Hickey and wife Vicki Sellis of La Crescenta, CA; and six grandchildren, John, Matthew, and Sarah Morgan of Kernersville, and Veronica, Aidan and Brandon Hickey of La Crescenta, CA. He was an avid chess player and played in many tournaments throughout his life. He was the Champion of Erie, PA as a young man and enjoyed the challenges of the game in person and on the Internet. The family will receive visitors Sunday March 30, 2014 from 4-6 p.m. at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel. A private Funeral Service will be held and Interment services will be in the Mt. Gur Cemetery.
