Kernersville-Curney F. Matthews, 79, formerly of 1292 Old Salem Road., and more recently living at South Fork Assisted Living Center, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 2:00PM Friday February 7, 2014 at Smith Grove Baptist Church and will be officiated by Rev. Chuck Peters and Rev. Frankie Matthews. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Son of the late Bertha Elizabeth and James Garfield Matthews, he was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Curney is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosa Lee Matthews of Winston-Salem; son Frankie Matthews and wife Edith; grandsons Zac Matthews and wife Mary Beth, Nic Matthews; great-grandchildren Waylon and Keeley Matthews, all of Lexington; brothers Terry and Eddie Matthews; and sisters Betty Sanders, Anna Lee Wall, and Edith Rice. The family will visit with friends on Thursday February 6, 2014 from 6PM - 8PM in the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel.
