It is with mixed emotions of sadness, gratefulness, and joy that we share the news that on May 22, 2024, Mary Margaret (McWhorter) McCall, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died at age 95 in Albuquerque, NM. Sad that her caring, supportive words are only felt now in our memories, grateful to have had her love and care throughout our lives, and joyful that she is without pain and with our dad again.

Mary McCall was born on February 23, 1929, in Altus, OK. Preceded in death by her dad, Burrow D McWhorter, mother, Margaret Roberta (Adair) McWhorter, sisters Eva Nell Williams and Nita Ruth Manley, grandson Coulter McCall and great-grandson Grayson McCall and her beloved husband, Carthal McCall. She was baptized into the Lord’s church on August 20, 1944, beginning her life-long, faithful service to Him.

Mary is survived by one brother, Roland McWhorter, and his wife, Sue, of Lawton, OK; her three sons and their wives: Howard and Sue, D and Kyla, and Ron and Pam, all of Albuquerque. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Brent (and his wife, Paige) Scott (and his wife, Amy) Kevin (and his wife, Kirsten) Brad (and his wife, Jordan), Chad (and his wife, Catherine), Shea, Chase (and his wife, Francesca), Chelsea (and her fiancé, Sam), and Jordan; 13 great-grandchildren; Brayden (and his wife, Ashley), Tanner, Brooklyn, Casey (and his wife, Paige), Kailee, Colby (and his wife, Lily), Connor, Morgan, Caleb, Eli, Phoebe, Rowan, and Sam (Trip) along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Growing up in Blair, Oklahoma, along with her 2 sisters and 1 brother, she helped on the family farm, raising sheep and in her family’s turkey hatchery. She married Carthal McCall on the day after her high school graduation, May 11, 1946. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary just weeks before her beloved husband, Carthal, passed away at the age of 95. Mary always loved her family and said that her family was her greatest accomplishment. After her youngest son started elementary school, she returned to school to seek her college degree which had always been a goal of hers. She received a Master's Degree in Education after just 5 years at ENMU. She taught kindergarten and 4th grade for 21 years before declining health forced her to retire from Estancia (New Mexico) Elementary School long before she was ready. Many of her former students recall Mary as their favorite teacher. She was an accomplished seamstress, winning many 1st place ribbons at county and state fairs. Her ensembles were always beautifully tailored and well made. She was rarely seen in "store-bought" clothes but looked like a fashion plate. She also excelled at baking, especially homemade dinner rolls which were a family tradition at Sunday dinner and all holiday meals. Mary’s family loved her holiday meals, which were all made from scratch. Mary supported all of her sons’ endeavors, whether it was raising animals to show at the many fairs they attended each year, sports events, or other special events which occurred throughout the year. She continued showing her support to them as adults, showing the same loving support to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
