Stephen H. Greenberg, M.D., of Indian Shores, FL, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Largo Medical Center. Dr. Greenberg was a well-known, talented interventional radiologist based for many years at Northside Hospital in Pinellas Park. While there, he partnered with several other radiologists and established the new Gateway Radiology Center. He retired in 2012. Stephen Greenberg was born in Worcester, MA on July 2, 1942 to Ruthe and Leon (Lippy) Greenberg. He graduated from Clark University with a degree in Organic Chemistry in 1964, and from The University of Vermont Medical School in 1968. He completed his internship at Los Angeles County General Hospital in 1969, and his residency in radiology at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia in 1972. From 1972-74, Lt. Cmdr. Greenberg served in the U.S. Navy stationed in Subic Bay in the Philippines, where he was the base radiologist as the Vietnam War wound down. Upon returning stateside, Dr. Greenberg spent a year at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia as a staff radiologist before moving with his family to Tampa in 1975. In Tampa, he worked at the Veterans Hospital and the USF Medical School. From 1977 until his retirement, Dr. Greenberg practiced in Pinellas County, where he happily lived near the Gulf of Mexico. Steve loved the ocean, the sunsets, and water sports of every kind. He especially loved playing tennis, which he did quite well for most of his life. He was also a great supporter of local professional sports teams. Steve had a natural and constant dry wit with a twist of irreverence. Undoubtedly, his greatest love was for his two sons, David L. Greenberg of St. Petersburg, and Scott J. Greenberg of NYC. That love was shared in full measure with his two grandchildren, Nina and Nigel Greenberg of St. Petersburg. Dr. Greenberg also leaves his daughter-in-law, Joyce Liu and his former wife, Audrey Greenberg, as well as many friends and professional associates. Funeral services will be held 10:30AM on Sunday, June 7th at Serenity Gardens Chapel, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Stephen's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (michaeljfox.org) or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org). David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Central Avenue Chapel in St. Petersburg is serving the family. Service Information
