March 11th, 1936 - July 16th, 2013
Edith C. Ely, 77, of St. Petersburg, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Born in Trenton, N.J., she was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She came to Florida in 1985. Edith retired from clerical work with E.I. DuPont and other private companies. She had also worked for the U.S. Air Force at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, where she wrote for the base newspaper and, occasionally, wrote a speech for the general. Edith was a member of Phi Theta Beta Sorority - Gamma Chapter and of the Delaware Valley Toastmistress organization. She is survived by two sisters, Jean Hutchinson and Carol Sheehan of St. Pete Beach; two children, David (Sarah) Ely of Thousand Oaks, California and Lynn (Rex) Amstutz of Salem, Oregon; five grandchildren, Rex Amstutz, Jr., Krissy Amstutz, and Adam, Stephen & Jonathan Ely; and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the David C. Gross Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel. Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2013, in the Goodwin Chapel at Pasadena Community Church, 227 70th St. S., St. Petersburg. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in St. Petersburg. A reception will follow the interment at the Clubhouse of the Yacht & Tennis Club of St. Pete Beach, 9445 Blind Pass Road, St. Pete Beach. The reception will begin at approximately 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 3rd Street, N.W., Salem, Oregon 97304. David C.
