Sonja Lucille Bennett

Sonja Lucille Bennett Sonja Lucille Bennett, 80, passed away peacefully at home with her family on June, 30, 2021. Sonja was born in Pierre, South Dakota to Benjamin and Ferne Burr. Sonja grew up in Aurora, CO and graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1958. In 1960, Sonja married Richard Bennett in Denver, CO. They had two daughters, Richell and Martha and were happily married for 61 years. Sonja was a professional secretary by trade and held numerous positions over the years. Her shorthand was excellent and regularly stymied her daughters’ efforts to read her Christmas list. She loved her family and her home. Some of her favorite activities included baking, playing the piano, adventures with her husband and friends, aerobic dancing, singing and spending time with her grandsons. Sonja is survived by her spouse Richard; her daughter Richell Bennett (Nancy); her daughter Martha Hamre (Charles); her grandsons Markus and Reilly Hamre; her brother-in-law John Bennett (Kathleen); her brother-in-law Butch Hjelm; her nephew Scott Hjelm (Kathi); her nephew Kevin Hjelm (Becky) and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Ferne and by her sister Joell Hjelm. An open house for friends and family will be held on Saturday, July 31st from 2-5pm.
