Bruno "Zachariah Ben Levi V' Dinah" Borenstein

Dr. Bruno Borenstein, age 70, of Providence and Las Vegas, NV, died on August 1, 2012. Bruno was born on December 8, 1941 in New York City to the late Leo and the late Dora (Nagler) Borenstein. Raised in Manhattan Bruno attended City College of NY (B.S.) and SUNY Downstate Medical Center (M.D.). He began his medical career as a commissioned General Medical Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service in Virginia. His twenty-five year career in Providence centered on the care of cancer patients, the elderly, and the terminally ill. He was Clinical Assistant Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Brown University, chief practitioner of an oncology practice, and Medical Director of several hospice organizations in RI. In Las Vegas, Bruno practiced as an internist at the Veterans' Administrator Hospital. As the son of two Holocaust survivors, Bruno was passionate about Jewish history. In 1997, Bruno earned an M.A. from Hebrew College in Jewish Studies. In Las Vegas, he served as President of the local Holocaust Survivor's Group and on the Board of Directors of Temple Bet Knesset BaMidbar and the Jewish Family Service Agency. Bruno is survived by his wife Linda (Giarrusso) Borenstein; sons Ammi (Vivian) of Seattle, WA, Joram (Marci) of Newton, MA, and Noah (Amy) of New York, NY; and 7 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Kurt Borenstein. A funeral service will be held at 1:30PM on Friday August 3, 2012 at the Lincoln Park Cemetery (1469 Post Road) in Warwick, RI. Shiva will be held at the home of Joram and Marci Borenstein, 93 Adena Road West Newton ma 02465 from Sun-Wed 2-4PM and 7-9PM.
