March 27th, 1919 - October 29th, 2009
Sidney Colen 90 of Clearwater passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 after a long and eventful life filled with many accomplishments. Mr. Colen came to St. Petersburg, from Toledo, Ohio in 1947. He began building and developing homes and home sites as well condominium apartments and townhomes in Pinellas County and then in Marion County. His career as a developer included establishing several local subdivisions. He was also the developer and creator of the town of Kenneth City and the On Top of the World communities in Clearwater and Ocala. Sidney Colen was the creator and inspiration behind Sholom Park in Marion County, a place for serene "introflection". Active in his business pursuits up to the end of his long life, Mr. Colen is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ina Colen and by his three children, Leslee R. Colen, Merna S. Brein (Jeff) and Kenneth D. Colen. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew Brein, Matthew Brein, Joshua Brein, Benjamin Hanson and Henry (Hank) Hanson, and by his sister Dolores Gruen and his nephew Gerald R. Colen, and by several grandnieces and grandnephews as well as great grandnieces and great grandnephews. Funeral services will be 11AM Sunday at Congregation Beth Shalom, 1325 S. Belcher Rd. Clearwater. Burial will follow in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Congregation Beth Shalom, Clearwater or Congregation B'nai Israel, St. Petersburg.
