Eugene Henry Fisher

Eugene Henry Fisher, 90, a 54 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2014. Eugene (Gene) was born April 20, 1924 in York PA to the late Joel and Mary Edna Fisher. Gene was married to his wife, Jean, for over 70 years! Gene met Jean when he was 9 and she was 6. Gene told Jean when he was 12 that he was going to marry her someday. Gene kept that promise and actually went AWOL from the Army to marry his childhood sweetheart on July 17, 1943. Gene served in the Army during WWII as a medic. He served in an Army hospital on an island in the Pacific Ocean. Gene discovered that he didn't like the sight of blood and changed careers when he left the Army. He eventually became a draftsman for EG&G at the Nevada Test Site. He actually drew up blue prints for nuclear bombs by hand. Of course, this was before computers and CAD programs. Gene loved to travel. He also collected and taped thousands of movies. Gene is preceded in death by his brother Paul, sister Dorothy, and daughter Linda. He is survived by his sister Mildred, his loving wife of 70 years Jean, son Paul and daughter Paula, 8 grand children, 12 great-grand children, and 2 great-great grand children. The funeral will be held at 11:20am on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at The Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City NV.
