Joseph Kania was born & raised in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated in 1950 from North Royalton High School. Joe attended Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. He then served time in the military as an Air Force Pilot in Hondo, Texas. He returned to Cleveland where he married his 4th grade sweetheart, Barbara Mix, and was married for 28 years until her death in 1990. He was an entreprenuer for over 35 years with a successful business, Mr. Tie Shoppe and was often referred to as the unofficial mayor of Cleveland. He retired to Florida 11 years ago in 1998 to spend time with his grandchildren. His love for sports included being an avid Cleveland Indians fan then a Tampa Bay Rays fan following them both to the World Series. His sense of humor and fun loving attitude brightened any room. Grandpa Joe lived life to the fullest as he was always on the go with a smile on his face. This beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend will be truly missed and remembered by all who knew him. He is survived by his brother, Walt, his daughters, Melissa & Andrea, his son-in-law, Kurt, and his grandchildren, Amanda, Amber and Kristian. Memorial service will be 7 PM Sunday, February 22, 2009 at The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay Auditorium, 1255 Pasadena Avenue South, South Pasadena. David C. Gross Funeral Homes is serving the family.
