June 10th, 1928 - October 6th, 2010
Virginia Gatewood Kenney, (Peggy), 82 of Cocoa Beach, FL passed away at her home on October 6, 2010. Peggy was born in Windermere, Fl on June 10th, 1928, raised in Orlando and graduated from OHS in 1946. She graduated from F.S.U. where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. After graduation she married Thomas Slane Kenney, her high school sweetheart. They moved to Cocoa Beach shortly after their marriage where they raised their two sons and were active in the community. Peggy taught at St.Mark’s, St. David’s,Freedom 7, and Roosevelt Jr. High Schools. She was also a member of the Cocoa Beach Women’s Club. She is preceded in death by her husband Tom and her parents Ainsworth and Virginia Gatewood. Peggy is survived by her two sons Slane and Dudley both of Cocoa Beach, her granddaughters Nicole Caraballo(Juan) of Titusville and Kristen Kenney of Rockledge, great granddaughter Sofia Caraballo, and two sisters Gretchen Shuman of Leesburg, Fl and Judy Britt of Windermere, Fl. She was an active member of St. David's Episcopal Church for many years. A memorial service will be held 1 PM Tuesday, October 12th at St. David’s by the Sea Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers contributions my be made to Health First Aging Institute, 1350 S. Hickory St., Melbourne, FL or to the Alzheimer's Association , 4676 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne, FL 32935.
