Our Dad Michael (Mike) Lee Timmons, Chief Master Sergeant, Retired United Air Force recently passed away at the young age of 64 on 3 November 2010. He was preceded in death by his father Clarence “Speck” Timmons. He is survived by his spouse Emerita (Mary) of 42 years, Daughter Melissa Ann (Crume) and son in law Ivan Crume, stepsons Allen Owensby and LTC Thomas Owensby and daughter in law Blanca Owensby, grandchildren Shelby and Austin Gauthier-Owensby, Armando and Alex Mejia and great grandson Constantine “Tino” Gauthier-Owensby, mother Marjorie Timmons and sister Janice (Timmons) Canine, brother in law Jon Canine, nephews Chris and Chad Canine and numerous relatives in the United States and abroad. Mike was born in Kokomo, Indiana and raised in Moran, Indiana. As a child Mike enjoyed fishing and playing various sports. He lettered in basketball, baseball and cross country while attending Rossville High School in Rossville, Indiana and graduated as the Valedictorian of his class in 1964. Mike attended Purdue University to pursue engineering, but after 2 years voluntarily enlisted in the US Air Force in 1966. The Vietnam War was in progress and Mike felt a strong compassion to serve his country, just like his father Clarence “Speck"" E. Timmons, who had served in the US Army during WW II and been in a German POW for 1 year. Mike served over 22 meritorious years in the US Air Force starting out in the Weather Service and shifting to Aerospace Management. During his military tenure he completed many TDY (temporary duty) to many countries. Mike achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, a pinnacle rank of all enlisted airmen. A key note was that he was the youngest Chief Mater Sergeant in Air Force Communications Command Headquarters at the time. Mike returned to college while in the service and supporting a family and graduated from Park College (now Park University) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Mike officially retired from the Air Force January 31, 1988 from McClellan Air Force Base, Sacramento, California. Mike went on to work in the Aerospace Industry as a civilian contractor for over 22 years and rose to be a Vice President in the Company. Mike was a simple, reserved, respectful, genuine, great and courageous man, whose motto was “I Can Do” and to always do the right thing. Mike’s life was a reflection of this and a true patriot who served his country. Mike enjoyed electronics, his swimming pool and watching sports on his large screen television. Mike will be missed and remembered by all those who he met and lives he touched. Your words and wisdom will never be forgotten, Mike “Chief”!
