JONI J. HOWKINS PORT ST. JOHN Joni (Hodell) Howkins of Port St. John passed away on Oct. 10, 2012, making Heaven the victor in the spirited battle she waged with cancer. Born June 11, 1958, in Stanwood, Michigan, Joni moved to Brevard County in 1977 where she met the love her life, Jim Howkins. For over 25 years, ending with her recent illness, she proudly supported the space shuttle program at Kennedy Space Center where she performed production scheduling, property management and key control. A vast number of Space Center coworkers counted Joni as a loyal friend. Joni lived her life in active testimony to her values. She put family first, made her home a delightful haven, and put her faith into action by serving the less fortunate in her community without fanfare. She embraced life with great enthusiasm. Joni loved exploring new places locally, sharing her finds with others, camping, and travel. She enjoyed gathering with family and friends, whether to celebrate special events or simply share the joy of being alive. Rarely idle, she was an outstanding cook, baker and hand crafter who used these skills to brighten the lives of others. Life was precious to Joni and she lived it to the fullest. She squandered no moments. In her memory, please help make the world a kinder placea""feed a stranger, champion a child, and reach out to a hurting friend. Joni is survived by her devoted husband of 22 years, James J. Howkins; her mother Beverly, sisters Nancy, Sally, and Susie and her extended family A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, Oct. 15th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5135 N. U.S. # 1, Cocoa, Fl. 32927.
