Herbert Oscar Abercrombie
February 20th, 1929 - April 22nd, 2021
Herbert Oscar Abercrombie, 92, passed away on April 22, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna Abercrombie. Herbert was born in 1929 as the youngest child of Benjamin Franklin (Ben) and Ada Murphree Abercrombie of Central, South Carolina. Herbert grew up with his six siblings Inez, Beatrice (Bob), Ada, Rufus, Frank, and Roy. Those siblings (who all pre-deceased him) provided him with a clan of one niece and 13 nephews which were a dedicated part of his life. He gave them much attention and they very fondly loved and enjoyed their Uncle Oscar until the last. He had a great sense of humor and was very engaging and very sharp even late in his life. He always enjoyed visits and communicating/checking in. Herbert graduated from Clemson University in 1950 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and later received a Master's in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech). He served active duty in the Air Force as a commissioned officer, after which his duties therein resulted in his continuing to serve as a civilian federal employee for the Air Force as his career. Herbert's career then resulted in his meeting Anna, a co-worker and his future bride! He was married and devoted to his loving wife for 53 years. Herbert and Anna married in 1968 while still co-workers in Ohio. Over time they become fond of vacationing in Florida and bought their condo/apartment on Bay Island in South Pasadena, near St. Pete Beach. In 1985, they retired and moved in. Thus, for 36 happy years they enjoyed the beach life, golf, visits to and from both Herbert and Anna's families, and their communal living with the 55+ crowd. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Palms of Pasadena Hospital Hospice, Team of Chaplain Travis Greene, 1501 Pasadena Ave. South, St. Petersburg, Florida 33707 or to...
