John Moore
September 7th, 1943 - September 22nd, 2013
John C. Moore, 70, of Melbourne, FL passed away on September 22, 2013 at MD Anderson in Orlando. He was born September 7th, 1943 in Macomb, IL to M. Paul Moore Sr., and Myra Hodges Moore. He is survived by his mother, Myra Robinson of Peoria, IL, his former wife and lifetime friend, Ann Bartley Moore of Fairhope, AL, and his daughters, Michelle Moore of Lake Tahoe, CA and Julie Moore of Satellite Beach, FL. He was predeceased by his father and his brother, M.P. Moore, Jr. John graduated from Peoria Central High School and Bradley University, where he ran track, played guitar, and sang in a folk band. After college, he became an officer and F-106 fighter pilot in the US Air Force, serving for over 20 years. In 2003, he retired as a 747 Captain from United Airlines after 34 years. More recently, he worked as an Airbus Instructor Pilot for JetBlue. John was a loving father, a loyal son and brother, and a generous, caring friend. He was admired for his skill in the air, as well as his patient, kind, instructional style on the ground. He enjoyed nothing more than a good joke and cheering for his beloved Chicago Bears. John was also an avid golfer, hitting an impressive “hole in one” five times. A celebration of his life will be held at the Suntree Country Club (One Country Club Drive, Melbourne, FL 32940) this Friday, September 27th, at 2pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, FL (by mail: APMC 3160 Southgate Commerce Blvd, Suite 50, Orlando, FL 32806 or online orlandohealth.kintera.org/apmc). There will be an additional service at a date to be determined in Peoria, IL. He will be laid to rest in Blandinsville, IL.
