James Edward Melsek
October 2nd, 1946 - August 22nd, 2016
James (Jim) Edward Melsek, age 69, a 20-year resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016. Jim was born on October 2, 1946, in Chicago, IL, to the late Joseph Edward Melsek and the late Genevieve (Morkin) Melsek. Jim was a proud US Army veteran, volunteering to serve in Vietnam, from an assignment in Germany. After his honorable service in the Army, he joined the Los Angeles Department of Corrections, serving as a Parole Officer upon his retirement. Jim was an avid bicyclist while living in California, and upon moving to Las Vegas, he became a professional poker player. After a casino win of a 50th Anniversary Edition Corvette, he joined the Southern Nevada Corvette Club. Jim was notorious as an extremely generous man, and he donated heavily to such organizations as SafeNest, KNPR, and PBS. He is survived by his partner, Susan Sechrest; his cousin, Wayne Anderson; and many wonderful friends. Jim's funeral will be at 1:20 PM, on Monday, August 29, 2016, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV. .
