Joy Pruitt
March 31st, 1929 - February 2nd, 2023
In Loving Memory The family of Joy Pruitt sadly mourn the passing of Joy on the morning of Feb 2, 2023, two months before what would have been her 94th birthday. Born March 31, 1929, Joy was a very strong, intelligent, and independent woman. She graduated from Jefferson High School and Linfield College, and obtained her Masters in Education degree from Portland State University. Joy was a teacher and retired principal with Portland Public Schools, and was married to Dr. Clarence Pruitt with whom she had three sons. She enjoyed the outdoors, taking her young children on numerous camping trips, and was an avid gardener. She also was an active tennis player well into her 80s. She is survived by her sister Beverly Hilliard, sons Clarence, Paul, and Andre, daughter Dr. Fay Gypong, and grandchildren Samantha, Dominique-Joy, and Courtney. She will be dearly and sorely missed by her family, loved ones and friends. There will be services and a celebration of life for her at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church at 1535 NE 17th Ave., Portland, OR on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 3 PM.
