Donald E. Young, 89, of Viera, FL, son of Richard L. and Lillian G. B. Young, brother of Richard and Eileen, passed away at his home on January 27, 2015. A transplant from Rhode Island via St. Thomas, USVI, Donald was an avid sailor and proud Navy veteran of WWII, serving on the destroyer escort Cecil B. Doyle in the Pacific. After the war, he became a doctor of optometry and raised his family with wife Babins Young of Chicago, living in northern NH, Northboro, MA, and Westerly, RI. There he found love a second time, marrying Nancy Bowlus, and moving to the USVI together where they were active with the Navy League, the St. Thomas Yacht Club, and many community service groups. They came to Viera after retirement in the mid 90’s where he was a dedicated duplicate bridge player with many clubs in the area. He is survived by his sister Eileen Caldwell and three of his four children, Dawn, Mark (d. 1994), Joy and Holli, his grandchildren Magen and Sara, and his many nieces and nephews. A memorial service is to be held at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in March of 2016. Please visit the funeral home website at www.beckmanwilliamsonviera.com, or contact his daughter Dawn at [email protected] for details.
