William Freeman, III

Obituary for William A. Freeman, III William A. Freeman, III, passed away on February 16, 2015, at the Wuestoff Hospice Center in Rockledge, Florida, after a long battle with cancer. William was born in Key West, FL, on March 23, 1951, to the parents of late William “Billy” Freeman, Jr. and the late Elise Curry Freeman. Surviving William is his step-mother Dr. Shirley Freeman of Key West, FL. After graduating from Key West High School in 1970, William attended the INA School for Agent Certificate, in Philadelphia, PA, and graduated the following year. He also attended the University of Tampa, School in Fire Casualty Insurance in 1972, and the Florida Association of Insurance Agents in Tallahassee, FL in 1973. He then became a licensed agent and joined the family agency, Porter Allen Insurance Company. He worked in the family agency with his father and his uncle, David Freeman and cousin, Elizabeth Freeman, until his family relocated to Rockledge, FL in June, 2005. There he obtained a position at A Professional Insurance Agency of Brevard in Melbourne, FL. In November, 2014, he was honored by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) for his 35 years of committed professional leadership and continuing education in this field. In his spare time, William was an avid tennis player and enjoyed running, reading and sports. However, his relationship with God was the force behind his life giving Him all glory and honor. He was a devoted husband of Brenda Beckerink Freeman for 30 years and a devoted father to William Roger Freeman, of Santa Monica, CA, and Lisa Curry Freeman of Nashville, TN. Other survivors include his sister, Julie Freeman Spilker and his brother, James Freeman. William was an active and proud member of the communities of Rockledge, FL as well as Key West, FL. His children described him best by saying, “You are the strongest person I know and a true gentle giant,” Roger Freeman, and “Your amazing spirit and faith continue to be an idol in my life,” Lisa Freeman. Funeral services will be held at Peace Covenant Presbyterian Church on Monday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 PM and will be laid to rest at the Key West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with all the funeral arrangements.
