Barbara "Shoshana" Sue Mendel

Barbara Sue Mendel, age 71, of Spring Valley, died Monday, June 4, 2018. Barbara was born January 9th, 1947 in Washington, DC to the late Otho and the late Ruth (Blum) Sherman. She spent her childhood in Arlington, VA and then attended James Madison College, earning her Bachelor's Degree in History. Barbara married Gerard Mendel, her husband of 49 years. They moved to Columbus, MO, where she gave birth to her son, Ed. Barbara and Gerard then decided to move to Las Vegas in 1972. Barbara was the first female craps dealer in Las Vegas, working at the Lady Luck before moving to the Silver Slipper and eventually retiring from the Flamingo Hilton. She enjoyed boxing to stay in shape, painting and cooking. Barbara is survived by her husband Gerard Mendel; son Ed (Abbie) Mendel; grandchildren; Jacob, Hannah and Emily; her brother Milt (Rosemarie) Sherman; and sister in law Evelyn (David) Young. The funeral will be held at 9:20 am on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV.
