Derrick Stanley Brown
November 27th, 1991 - December 3rd, 2016
In loving memory of Derrick Stanley Brown November 27, 1991 - December 3, 2016 Derrick Stanley Browna""son, brother, friend, dreamer, designer and talented artista""passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home in Cape Canaveral, FL. He was 25 years old and a student at Eastern Florida State College. Derrick would describe himself as a deep-thinker, but yet still a child at heart. Born on November 27, 1991 to Mark and Vicki Brown, he is remembered for his silly humor and grand imagination. Derrick loved to be outside and loved to challenge himself. Whether it was to surf, skate, bike, snowboard or fish. He enthusiastically completed the rugged Outward Bound summer camps in New Hampshire. One summer, off the coast of Maine, he lived on a working sailboat with the crew for two weeks. This experience led him to earn the rank and respect of a true sailor. At Cocoa Beach High School, our lovable ""Boo-Bear"", became known as ""Derr Bear"", then affectionately and ultimately known as ""Panda Tank"" by his loyal circle of friends. He enjoyed expressing his creativity through re-enactments with his friends, and excelled in the US Navy Sea Cadets program, reaching the highest-level possible of Chief. Derrick is still one of the few Sea Cadets in Brevard County to ever reach that level. As a young man with both passion and an intense sense of empathy for everyone else, Derrick was also subject to his own depression, which he quietly battled himself. He chose to end his life, just days after his 25th birthday. However, this dark moment will NEVER erase the light that he brought to all of our lives for 25 years. He is survived by his parents, Mark and Vicki Brown; his older sister, Christina Brown Morrison; his brother-in-law, Wes Morrison; niece, Parker Morrison, and his maternal grandmother, Beverly Tippins Van Alstine with her husband, Larry. He is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Al Tippins; and his paternal grandparents, Gladys and Stan Brown. Funeral services will be held at the Crossroads Community Church, in Titusville, FL, on December 10, 2016, with services managed by LifePointe Ministries, Pastor Scooter Morrison. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Derrick to local suicide prevention organization, Hannah's Heroes, Inc. http://www.hannahs-heroes.org.
