All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Colorado Springs
Darrell Wayne Biggs
August 25th, 1960 - March 22nd, 2023
Darrell Biggs was born in a U.S. Army Hospital at Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt, Germany on August 25, 1960 and passed from this earth on March 22, 2023, on a helicopter over Douglas County, Colorado at the age of 62. Darrell knew that his time was limited for the past year and a half since receiving the news from his doctor that he was born with a medical condition that was “luck of the draw” and there is no known help for. Darrell is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandee, son Jonathan (Biggs), daughter Rachael (Yousuf), and his 3 grandchildren Nicholas (Biggs), Noah (Biggs) and Isabella (Biggs). He was the youngest of four children born to his parents; his father, the late Charles A. Biggs and is survived by his mother, Gloria (Sue) Biggs (Bruce). He is also survived by his 3 siblings, Charlene, Douglas, and Bruce and their spouses in addition to several nephews. In 1978, Darrell entered the U.S. Air Force and after serving over 30 years between active duty and the reserves, he retired in 2012 with a rank of Senior Master Sargeant. For the last few years of his military career, Darrell was a loadmaster on C-130 cargo planes. He served several tours in Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and the Iraq War. While in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, Darrell became employed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Department on the Federal Center in Lakewood starting in 1999 and remained employed there until his passing. He was grateful to the USGS for the several times that they afforded him the time away from work to deploy with the Air Force. While stationed in North Dakota, Darrell decided to further his education, graduating years later with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Finance. Darrell had a passion for running, and when told by doctors that he shouldn’t run anymore, he switched to riding both road and mountain bicycles. He was often seen around Castle Rock on Sunday mornings on one of his bikes, riding all over town. His other passion was his dogs, and he enjoyed spending his Saturday mornings walking downtown with Sadie, Kiwi, and Luna. Darrell had a quirky sense of humor and wittiness that he used to brighten other’s days. He enjoyed seeing his family, friends, and co-workers laughing and having a good time. Darrell will be laid to rest on Monday, April 17 at Pikes Peak National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Warrior Dog Foundation supporting two of Darrell’s passions: those who served their country and dogs, especially military dogs who he felt earned and deserve the right to live out the remainder of their days with honor, dignity, and loving homes like the ones this foundation finds or provides.
