Jean A McLain, a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Viera, Florida passed away at home on July 15th, 2018 at 85 years of age. She has gone to join Lowell “Mac” McLain, her beloved husband of 63 years. Jean was a joyful, energetic presence in the lives of everyone who knew her, from her husband, her 4 children, 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren to her many friends and co-workers. Jean wore many hats over the years. In addition to being the loyal wife of a military serviceman throughout Mac’s 26 year career, she worked for Pan American Airlines and Pan Am World Services until her retirement in 1981. Then, in the 80’s, Mac and Jean set aside retirement to own and operate a BBQ restaurant for a few years before deciding retirement was more fun. They made a second home of a 40-foot Monaco and hit the road to see as much of this beautiful country as they could, all the way from Florida to Alaska. Jean love traveling so much, she even convinced Mac to explore foreign lands, including Canada, Russia and Antarctica. Spending time in so many national and state parks led them to volunteering at several parks in the mountains of North Carolina, which eventually led to their being hired to manage a couple of them. It was during this time that they met Jim and Margaret who were volunteers at one of the same parks. As fate would have it, years later, Mac and Margaret passed away within months of each other. Not having seen each other for years, Jim still managed to track Jean down and charmed her into retracing some of those travel memories. They found each other’s company to be such a blessing as each could reminisce about their lost love with the other’s full appreciation. And so, Jean continued to enjoy traveling with Jim. Ever devoted to serving God, she was always an active, participating member of her parish. She served as a Eucharistic minister, visited the sick and home bound, and found her most heart-warming experiences when she led the bereavement ministry. She will be deeply missed.
