Rodger A. Housley
October 10th, 1946 - January 31st, 2024
Rodger Allan Housley, a man of integrity, love and patriotism was born in St. Helens, Oregon October 10, 1946 to Emmert and Kathleen Housley. When he was 18 months old, they moved to Curtis, NE, where he and his brother, Eldon, grew up on the farm/ranch learning a strong work ethic. Rodger was active in and enjoyed the sports of high school in Curtis, as well as leadership opportunities in Student Government. After high school, he went to the University of Nebraska and was active in R.O.T.C. (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps). There, he met and married Tynette Fentiman August 17, 1968. He graduated January 1969 in Business Administration and the following day was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. After basic training, Rodger and Tynette took a tour of duty in Geissen, Germany, where their first son, Brian was born. Rodger was then sent to Viet Nam for 10 months. Among other medals of recognition, he received a Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement and was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1972. Upon leaving active duty in the Army, Rodger moved his family to Arizona, where his parents had moved after retiring from the farm/ranch. His second son, Brandon was then born in Mesa, AZ. To begin civilian life, Rodger got his first job in the Mortgage business, as a loan officer and began his 50 year-long career in the many aspects of Mortgage Industry. He then retired in 2022 from Fairway Independent Mortgage. Fairway is a nationwide corporation, whose founder and CEO is Steve Jacobson, whom Rodger mentored 40 years ago. Rodger and Tynette enjoyed retirement at their home in the country northeast of Colorado Springs, CO. Rodger was always proud of his family and loved them with all his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmert and Kathleen Housley, Uncle John Scharf, Aunt Doris Scharf, Aunt Rosalie (Bob) Doyle, cousin, Gary Scharf and niece Rochelle Housley. Rodger is survived by his wife, Tynette Housley; sons, Brian Housley and Brandon Housley; grandchildren, Abigail (Cody) Miller, Drake Housley; great-grandchildren, Archie and Evie Miller; brother, Eldon (Roxanne) Housley; nieces Nichole (Nick) Giacoma and Clarissa (Guido) Caverson; cousins John (Barbara) Scharf, Debra Scharf, Bob (Gayle) Scharf, Nancy (Duane) Schneider, Diane (Gary) Hayden, Ron Doyle and Kim Doyle Newten. Rodger was loved, honored and esteemed by family, friends and career associates. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rodger’s name to: American Warrior Initiative American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization that has spearheaded hundreds of give-back initiatives to wounded heroes of America, through gifts of business grants, family grants, home upgrades, mortgage free housing, and more. Most proudly, they have gifted 352 service dogs to deserving veterans over the past seven years. They know these dogs save lives and AWI is fully committed to continuing this important mission, since veteran suicide has become a national tragedy. One hundred percent of all money donated to AWI goes directly to a veteran in need, since Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation covers all overhead.
