Captain Carl Josephson US Coast Guard (Ret)
June 17th, 1943 - May 6th, 2020
Carl Josephson, 76, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2020 at home in Viera. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sara; his sister, Patti Rosta; niece Tiffany Rosta, both of New Castle, PA; his daughters Diane Stigers, husband Carsten, of Pittsburg, PA; Grandson, Jason Stigers, wife, Katherine, greatgrandson, Theodore of Houston, TX; Pauline Shook of Cocoa, FL; son, Brien Josephson of Galesferry, CT; stepson, GianMario Canobbio; wife, Zoe; Grandson Luca; granddaughter, Gianna of Miami Shores, FL and stepdaughter, Ambrogina Canobbio of New York City. He was predeceased by his parents, Stella and Joseph Jozefczyk; and nephew, Paul Rosta. Graduate of Coast Guard Academy class 1965; he retired Captain after 27 years of distinguished service. He was Commanding Officer of the USCGC Cherokee WNEC165; received the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam; served as Judge on the US Coast Guard Court of Military Review. After his Coast Guard service, He worked for the Attorney General for the State of Virginia as Senior Assistant Attorney General for 17 years. In 2013 he and his wife moved Florida. He became a dedicated golfer, affectionally known as “Corky” by his golfing buddies. Carl is best known for his love of God expressed in signing gospel music inspired by Elvis; a constant student and avid reader. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
