David (Dave) Lee Bodi
March 6th, 1937 - August 3rd, 2020
David (Dave) Lee Bodi, US Navy Corpsman Veteran, 83, of Viera Florida, formerly of Fremont, Bowling Green, Woodville, and Brunswick, Ohio, passed away on August 3, 2020. Dave was preceded in death by his loving wife Janet (Forsyth) in 1980. He was a Loving Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Hollis (Holly) Bodi, sister Phyllis Newman, sons Terry Bodi (Sue), Kevin Bodi (Shelly), Brian Bodi (Jennifer), Tracy Bodi (Lisa), Brad Bodi (Josephine), and daughters Brigit Brown (Charles), and Allison Cunningham. He also loved and enjoyed his 15 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren (with 2 on the way) as well as many niece and nephews. Dave joined the United States Navy the day after his high school graduation and served as a Navy and Marine Corpsman in Okinawa, Japan. After the Navy, Dave worked in Midwest Ohio with Columbia Gas of Ohio Utility Services for over 35 years. He was loved by the communities wherever and whenever he served, always accepting the call to travel out into the rough Ohio winters to provide heat and warmth to all his customers. At a young age Dave and Janet took in their nephew Robert (Bobby) Forsyth until he joined the United States Air Force after high school, and they continued to care and support Bobby as their own. Dave was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Kiwanis Club and Key Club’s, Little League Baseball and helping his community in any way he could while he and Janet raised a young family of four boys. After Janet’s passing, Dave served as Eucharistic Minister at his Catholic Church, where he met Holly, and a few years later the family grew even more with Holly’s children Brigit, Allison, and Brad. He was the ultimate family man always attending all the children and grandchildren’s sporting and school events over the years. He had a green thumb and loved to watch his plants and orchids become full of life. He loved to fish and was an expert baker, especially his famous cheesecakes, and loved to help cook and prepare the large family meals over the years. Dave’s smile and friendly personality was a common trait as he never met someone who did not feel special, loved, and welcome within the first minutes of meeting him. He was generous, caring, loving and a true example of a Brother in Christ. To the world Dave was known as our Dad, while to all his family, he was the world. Dave has forever left a loving and beautiful legacy as a Christian Man and will forever be our Guardian Angel. Please leave your prayers and condolences on Dave’s Tribute Wall on this web site. Contributions in Dave’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society. A Memorial Mass Service will be held at St John the Evangelist Catholic Community in Viera, Florida on Thursday, September 10th at 11:00 AM. Social distancing and mandatory masks for all attendees is required. Please contact the Church office for further information at: St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community, 5655 Stadium Pkwy., Melbourne, FL 32940 (321)637-9650
