ROY KYLE THACKER Gate City- Roy Kyle Thacker, 72, of Gate City, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon (October 10, 2018) at Holston Valley Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Hawkins County and had lived in Gate City (Kermit Community) since 1968. Mr. Thacker retired from J.P. Stevens with 37 years of service. He loved to go hunting, fishing, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Roy Thacker was a member of Pink Hill Primitive Baptist Church where served as Deacon. He sang bass for over 50 years having been a part of Pink Hill Quartet, Joy Aires, Thacker Family Quartet, and the Gethsemane Quartet. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Karen Thacker; his parents, Bazle and Ella Mae Thacker; his brothers, Johnny Thacker, Frank Thacker, and just this week, Quinton Thacker. Roy Kyle Thacker is survived by his children, Brian Thacker and wife, Vivian, Amy Thacker and husband, Randy, Justin Thacker and wife, Jackie; his grandchildren, McKayla Riggs, Marcus Thacker, Kayla Thacker, Zach Thacker, Emily Wheeler, Lindsey Thacker, Chandler Thacker, Chasity Thacker, and Sadie Thacker; two great-granddaughters, Ivy Thacker and Letty Thacker; a sister, Susie Fuller and husband, Junior; a special sister-in-law, Jean Wheelock and husband, Grant, along with several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. A visitation will be held on Monday (October 15, 2018) from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home or friends may also call anytime at the residence of the daughter, Amy. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday (October 15, 2018) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jerry Scalf, officiating. Music will be provided by David and Debbie Easterling and Teresa Winegar. A private graveside service will be held for immediate family. A special thank you goes out to Gary Gilliam and staff with Clinch River Health Services, 3rd floor nurses at Wilcox Hall, and to Kingsport Hematology Oncology in Kingsport for the special care given to Roy Kyle Thacker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
