Betty Bailey
April 11th, 1935 - June 12th, 2019
Kingsport – Betty Quillen Bailey, 84 of Kingsport, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 12, 2019 in the presence of her four beloved children while at home. She lived a full life after being born on April 11, 1935 at a mere 1.3 pounds; a fact she was very proud of. Betty was raised in southwest Virginia and graduated from the former Shoemaker High School in 1953. She married George Bailey in 1957 and they raised their four kids in Kingsport. She had a long career at the former Kingsport Press where she retired as a supervisor in the Data Processing Department. After retirement, Betty and George spent their time travelling to Florida and England while sharing their love for their numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors. Preceding her in death were her husband of 57 years, George David Bailey; parents, Walker and Mary Quillen; sister, Virginia Fick and husband Robert; brother, Eugene Quillen; brothers-in-law, Samuel Bailey and Parker “P J” Trent; mother and father-in-law, Irene and Rufus Bailey Betty is survived by her loving children, Patti Fleming and husband Jeremy of Kingsport, Rhonda Maupin of Lenoir City, TN, Kelly Bailey and wife Kelly Jo of Kingsport and Dwight Bailey of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Kevin Overbeck and wife Sara, Betty Reeves and husband Brian, Cody Maupin and wife Heather, Sara Lurcook and husband Mitchell, Chase Bailey and Melissa Hembree and husband Ross. She was very proud of all her 12 great-grandchildren and excited to have one more on the way. She is also survived by her sister Peggy Bologna and husband Joe; sisters-in-law, Florence Bailey and Barbara Trent; lifelong best friend, Shirley Cox; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 am. The family would like to thank all the friends and extended family members for their love and support for our mother over her entire life, but especially during the latter months of her most wonderful and sweet life. Also, a special thank you to Shontaine Haney for her loving care of Mom and Amedisys Hospice nurse Jody Shaffer Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City is serving the Bailey family.
