Larry C. Gilliam, 79, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019 after an extended illness. Larry was born on May 20, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio. The family moved to Dry Creek, Blackwater, VA around 1941. Larry lived in Weber City, VA from 1966 to 1983 and lived in Church Hill, TN from 1983-2019. Larry worked in Ft. Wayne, IN about 6 months in 1959 before joining the U.S. Army in Dec. 1959. He served from 1959 to 1962. Larry worked for 32 years and retired from AFG Greenland plant in Church Hill, TN. In retirement Larry loved to repair lawn mowers, weed eaters, and doing other odd jobs. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo “Lon” Gilliam and Nolif Bishop Gilliam; his grandparents, Milam “Davis” Gilliam and Albertia Neal Gilliam, Willie Bishop and Virgie Miller Bishop; his sister, Eloise and brother in-law, Lewis Mendenhall, brother, Prior and sister in-law, Mildred Edmonds Gilliam; brother in-law, Victor Rasnic; and several aunts and uncles. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Carolyn Templeton Gilliam; sister, Vivian Rasnic, along with several nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Layton Bentley officiating. A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Larry’s memory. Carter Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Gilliam Family.
