Fern Salyer
October 10th, 1929 - February 20th, 2020
Hiltons – Fern Carter Salyer, 90 of Hiltons, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at her residence following a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Scott County and was retired from Eastman where she played basketball on the company All-Star Team. She was a member of Mt Vernon United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Salyer; parents, Ermine and Ora Harper Carter; brother, W. L. Carter and wife, Bonnie. Fern is survived by her sons, Phil Salyer and wife Tammy, Joey Salyer and wife Jan and Shane Salyer; grandchildren, Kristen Salyer, Cody Salyer and wife Meghan, Marcus Salyer, Isaac Salyer, Lauren Salyer and Allison Salyer; brother, Roger Carter; brother-in-law, Jack Salyer and wife Ruth; sister-in-law, Jimmie Belle Salyer; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 6 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Vickie Carter and Rev. Randy Powers officiating. Music will be provided by Dale and Teresa Jett, Laura White, Jerry Hensley, Oscar Harris, and John Carter and Ana Cash. A graveside service will be held at 1 pm Monday at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 pm. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City is serving the Salyer family.
