Rev. Mack Landon Sanders Yuma, VA – Rev. Mack L. Sanders, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Fort Blackmore, VA on March 5, 1936 to the late Cleo and Venus Sanders. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Sanders; brothers Fred and Troy Sanders; sister-in-law Verna Sanders; brother-in-law Charles Lee; aunts Sarah Belle Sanders and Jincy “Blue” Honeycutt; and uncle Pete Pierson. Mack attended Fellowship Chapel Church where he served as a former pastor. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He exhibited a servant’s heart by serving in the United States Navy and faithfully fulfilled his calling to do the Lord’s work by accepting his call to preach. He also loved to minister in song as a member of the Fellowship Chapel Quartet. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Wheatley Sanders of the home; one son, Ivan and Cathy Sanders, Elizabethton, TN; three daughters Holly and Jason Castle, Gate City, VA. Roan Sanders and partner Zavier Valentin, Columbus, GA. Carolyn and James Fleenor of Church Hill; brother Russell and Bobby Jo Sanders, Fort Blackmore, VA; sisters Geraldine “Gerri” Lee, Kingsport, TN, Betty and Tom Graham, Morgantown, West Virginia, Mima and Otis Lawson, Gate City, VA, Ina Faye and Paul Owens, Kingsport, TN, and Reba and Gary Turbyfill, Kingsport, TN; one uncle Clyde Pierson, North Carolina. Four grandchildren – Jessica and Jason Cardin, Michael and Alisha Porter, Jaden Castle, and Rylee Castle. Four great-grandchildren – Cora Cardin, Kovi Cardin, Logan Porter, and Zoey Porter. Mack is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as Daddy Mack’s host of foster children. The family will receive friends from 3-6 pm on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Carter-Trent Scott County Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 6 pm Sunday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kevin Sanders and Rev. Ivan Sanders officiating. Burial will be on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 11 am at Holston View Cemetery. Those wishing to go in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 am. Pallbearers will be family and friends. A special thank you to Dr. Wesley Eastridge and Ballad Health Hospice and all the friends and family that have stood by Mack’s side during his illness. Your love can never be repaid. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Sanders family.
