Elbert "E.S." Sevear Quillen, Jr.
October 8th, 1932 - January 12th, 2023
Elbert Sevear “E.S.” Quillen, Jr., 90, of Gate City, VA, went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2023 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Scott County, VA and was a longtime timber cutter and enjoyed farming. E.S. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be dearly missed. E.S. was preceded in death by his wife, Jane (Alley) Quillen; parents, Elbert and Partha (Gillenwater) Quillen; mother and father-in-law, Joe and Etta (Greear) Alley; sister, Reba Miller; sisters-in-law, Ellen Alley, Betty Peters and Sharon Roberts; brothers-in-law, Ross Dockery, Ed Helton, John LaForce, Pat “Jammer” Lawson, Bill Langrel, Curt Peters and Marvin Roberts; grandson, Stephen Craft; several half siblings. Surviving are his children; sons, Douglas and Leon Quillen; daughters, Loretta (Larry) Page and Diana (Fredie) Carter; grandchildren, Michael Page, Staci (Kevin) Dunn, Samantha (Anthony Horner) Hylton; great-grandchildren, Brooke Page (Landon Blinn), Brett Page, Savanna Craft, Scarlett Dunn and Grayson Horner; sisters, Ollie Dockery, Gertrude Lawson, Nina LaForce, Joan Langrel, Marie Helton, Shirley Williams, Brenda Salling and Cathy Doty; brothers, Patton Quillen, Odell Quillen, Fred Quillen and Mack Quillen; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, January 16, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hales Spring Rd, Midway Community of Gate City, VA with his sister Cathy Doty providing a eulogy and Dr. Todd Cassel officiating. Family and friends planning to attend are asked to assemble at 12:45 pm at the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, VA is in charge of the arrangements.
