BETTY ANN LAWSON BAKER was born in Lee County, VA on September 1, 1948 and departed this life May 20, 2024 at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 19 days. She was the daughter of the late Elder Carl and Pauline Osborne Lawson. Betty graduated from Gate City High School, attended ETSU and worked for many years at Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport. She married Hershel Baker on January 17, 1969 and to this union was born 3 daughters. Betty was saved at an early age and joined Blackwater Lick Church where she remained a member until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Pauline Lawson; maternal and paternal grandparents; mother-in-law; father-in-law; several aunts and uncles. Surviviors include her husband of 55 years, Hershel Baker; 3 daughters, Kim Baker Summey; Amy Baker, and Ashley Baker Absher; 2 grandchildren, Audra Absher and Matti Absher; 1 step grandchild, Jillian Summey; 1 great grandchild, Layla Absher; 2 brothers, Carl Lawson, Jr. and Danny Lawson and a host of friends and relatives. Betty made friends easily as was evident of her many friendships over the course of her life. Always willing to lend a helping hand, she touched many lives over the years, but her struggles are over and she is at rest with the Lord. Written by her brother, Danny Lawson Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Baker Family Cemetery, 370 Fiddle Drive, Hiltons, VA with her nephew, Pastor Scott Vermillion officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10:50 am at the cemetery for the service. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, VA is in charge of the arrangements.
