Billy Bryan Smith, 94, of Greensboro, passed away at Beacon Place Hospice Home on July 29, 2018. He was born on Oct. 19, 1923 to the late Buford Bryan Smith and Adie Melissa Johnson Smith and pre-deceased by his son Dewey F. Smith; grand-daughter, Angela Smith; sisters Agatha Earnhardt and Hilda Wood. Billy is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Elizabeth (Lib) Smith; son Bryan Smith; daughter-in-law Carolyn E. Smith-Kerr (Richard); two grand-daughters Jaclyn Smith Vanderhoff (Eric), Stephanie Smith and their mother, Peggy Smith; two great grand-daughters, Hailey Vanderhoff and Parker Vanderhoff; sister-in-law, Evelyn Bingham as well as other loving family members. Born in Salisbury NC, Billy lived most of his life in Greensboro and graduated from Greensboro High School. He served in the army during World War II as a Sergeant for the 547th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, earning the American Theater Service Medal, EAME Service Medal and 2 Bronze Stars. After the war, Billy worked with his father Buford Smith as a mechanic and later with his son Dewey in their family business, “Smith Wheel Alignment”, in Greensboro. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, Aug.1, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. graveside at Westminster Gardens Mausoleum. Associate Pastor, Steve Sumerel of First Baptist Church, Greensboro will be officiating. Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. The family will receive friends at Westminster Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church of Greensboro, 1000 West Friendly Ave., Greensboro NC, 27401 or Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
