Jose Camacho Palma, known to all his friends as Papa, Joe, Joey, Pepe, and Pepot, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, January 26, 2017. He was 85 years old. Joey is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Dr. Gloria Mendoza Palma, his son Joel (his wife Stephanie and daughters, Mackenzie and Loren), his son Joden (his wife Michelle and son, Ryan), his daughter Zayda Ogburn (her husband Matt and daughters, Maddy and Maya), and his son Joff (his wife Candy). Joey was a loving father who doted on his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel, especially to areas where he could spend time with family and friends. Joey was born in Tacloban, Leyte, Philippines on December 4, 1931. Before moving to the United States, he was an English Professor at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines and Vice President of Encyclopedia Britannica of the Philippines. In the United States, he finally had a chance to work in the field of one of his favorite hobbies, cooking and baking. Joey was one of the chefs at Sedgefield Country Club and Greensboro Country Club. The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home in Greensboro, NC on Monday, January 30, 2017. A celebration of life and interment will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Road, Greensboro, NC. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu or consequent to flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joey's honor to Hospice of the Piedmont and/or Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro.
