Ruth "Betsy" Talbot Marshall
October 16th, 1942 - September 17th, 2018
Ruth "Betsy" Talbot Marshall, 75, of West Columbia, loving wife of David Marshall Sr., passed away, Monday, September 17, 2018, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on October 16, 1942, in Hot Springs, Arkansas to the late John and Gladys Talbot. She received her nursing degree from the University of South Carolina in 1964 and worked at Baptist Hospital in Columbia. She later became a certified teacher and taught Special Education at Hopkins High School. After her children were born she taught kindergarten at Springdale Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and was a good and faithful servant. A member of Lexington United Methodist Church for 46 years, 'Miss Betsy’ worked tirelessly with the Children's Education Ministry teaching hundreds of children. She was a quiet example to her children and all who knew her as one who loved the Lord, walking in obedience to him, keeping his commands, and serving him with all her heart and all her soul. In addition to her husband of 54 years, she is survived by three children, Ann Byess (Jeff), Susan Cafferty (Brendan) and David Marshall, Jr. (Amber); nine grandchildren, Joseph and William Parsons, Andrew Byess, Daniel Maltz, Reilly, Maggie and John Cafferty, and Katie and Zachary Moats; two brothers, John Talbot (Kathy) and Jim Talbot (Sinclair); two sisters, Nancy Tevepaugh (Steve) and Therese Talbot; and many nieces and nephews. The family will hold visitation in the gymnasium at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Lexington United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lexington United Methodist Church, 309 East Main Street, Lexington 29072, Palmetto Health Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
