On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, loving father and husband Michael Patrick Hughes passed away at the age of 56, after a five year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Legacy Mike was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia. He was a loyal Philly sports fan throughout his life, and loved to go on vacations, especially to beaches, but Wildwood was always his favorite place of all. After retiring from Philadelphia Gas Works, where he worked for nearly 30 years, he loved to referee and spend time with his dog, Chase. Family Mike was predeceased by his father, Michael Francis and his mother, Margaret Elizabeth (née Mullen). He is survived by his wife, Diane Marie (née Gehousky) and his two children, Caitlyn Beverly and Michael Joseph, whom he was very proud of. He is also survived by his four siblings, Brian Hughes, David (Susan) Hughes, Eileen Starrs and Erin Sowell, his sister-in-law Susan (Robert) Conboy, many nieces and nephews, as well as his best friend of 51 years, Jerry Mullin. Remembrance Mike didn’t want a viewing or a service, so a big party in his honor will be held Friday, April 12, from 7:30PM-11:30 PM at St. Dominic’s Hall in Philadelphia 8532 Frankford Ave, Philadewlphia, PA 19136. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mike’s memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 5 Valley Square Suite 210, Blue Bell, PA 19422. philadesv.wish.org share the memories … share love … ShareLife® at www.mcgfuneral.com

McGuinness Funeral Homes - Woodbury

We have served the Woodbury community since 1951, when our founder, James A. McGuinness, opened our first funeral home. He knew the importance of families having a trustworthy, local funeral home to help them memorialize their lost loved ones and navigate grief. Our beautiful funeral home in Woodbury was originally built in the late 1700s, and has since been rebuilt to honor its original charm and comfortable, warm feel. Once you walk through our doors, you become family....
