Evelyn M Robertson
July 1st, 1927 - June 27th, 2019
Evelyn M. Robertson on June 27, 2019, four days before her 92nd birthday, of New Gretna, NJ and formerly of Woodbury Heights, NJ. Mrs. Robertson was born in Woodbury, New Jersey. She moved to Belle, West Virginia at the age of 7, where she later graduated from DuPont High School and was employed by B. Pressler Co. During that time she was a saxophone player in the "Musical 9", an all-female dance band. The Musical 9 performed at local hotels including The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. After her marriage she moved to Woodbury, NJ where she and her husband, along with her father, started Wenzel and Robertson, which later evolved into Robertson Construction Company. In addition to being the bookkeeper for the company, she also worked as the office manager at Vallee & Bowe auto dealership for 43 years. While raising her children, she taught Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbury Heights. She was also a den mother to Cub Scout Troop #222. She sewed many of her daughter's clothes and made wonderful elaborate Halloween costumes. Upon her retirement, she and her husband moved to New Gretna, NJ, which had been their second home since 1957. She enjoyed attending church, gardening, fishing, playing cards and Scrabble, crossword puzzles and socializing with her Bass River friends. She was the widow of Melvin L. Robertson, her husband of 57 years. Survived by son, Melvin W. Robertson (Andrea) and daughter, Barbara A. Rauscher (Charles); three grandchildren, Courtney R. Morris (Steven), Kyle M. Robertson (Megan) and Katelyn R. Previtera (Alfio); five great-grandchildren, Cody and Sadie Morris, Mackenzie and Chase Robertson, and Carter Previtera. Viewing Wednesday, July 3rd from 9am to 11am in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ. Words of Remembrance will begin at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Presbyterian Church of New Gretna, 19 N. Maple Avenue, P.O. Box 144, New Gretna, NJ 08224.
