Eloise H Ewen, (nee van Oyen) of Mantua, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020. She was aged 67 years. Legacy Born to William and Eloise of the Netherlands, Eloise was the youngest of four and the only daughter. She had 3 older, protective brothers (Andre, John, and William) whom she would often tease by boasting she was the only one in the family who could be president because she was the only one born in the U.S. In 1956, at the age of 4, Eloise became an aunt for the first time and continued to become an aunt many times over for the next 20 years. Eloise took her role as aunt (and later great aunt, and even recently great aunt) very seriously. She knew everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries and you could always count on a card from aunt El. In the summer of 1972, she met the love of her life, Jack, through a lifelong friend. Jack and Eloise went on to get married and have their 2 children, Jason and Adrienne. They traveled the world together, curated their beautiful homes, helped each other through health scares and operations, entertained, and most importantly- supported each other when it deeply mattered. Of the many titles Eloise held, Oma was her favorite. Ryker, “little” Jack, and Harper were always lovingly cared for, thought of, and doted on by her. Whether you needed a strong opinion, long conversation, good advice, helping hand, or a warm hug, you could always depend on Eloise and her thoughtful nature. Her absence is sure to be felt by those that knew and loved her. Family She is the beloved Wife of 45 years to Jack Ewen; loving mother of Jason (Tricia)Ewen & Adrienne (Evan) Craft; loving grandmother of Ryker, & Harper Ewen and Jack Craft; dear sister of William (Carol) van Oyen , sister in law of Toni Rose van Oyen , Alice van Oyen, loving daughter in law of Betty Jane Ewen. Eloise is predeceased by her parents, William & Eloise van Oyen and her brothers, Andre & John van Oyen. Eloise is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great great nephew. Farewell Tribute Due to the current national health crisis, Eloise's family will be celebrating her life with a private Funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eloise's memory to the Abramson Cancer Center of Penn Medicine, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
