James Benjamin Welch 10/27/1940 – 10/2/2020 James Benjamin Welch, 79, of West Columbia, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020. He spent his final moments with his beautiful bride of 58 years, Mrs. Joyce Cross Welch. He is survived by his sister Margie (Hansford) Tyler of Gainesville, Fl. He is also survived by his grandson Chris (Melanie) Trimnal of Lexington, as well as his great grandchildren Caleb, Allison, and Brice Trimnal. “Jim” as most people knew him was an extraordinary man. Many steer towards hyperbole in times of grief, but that’s not the case here. So often in life people look for excuses to do less. Jim had every reason to fall back and do less. He had serious medical conditions which made life more difficult for him, yet he still took care of his business and provided for his family. Not only did he overcome his obstacles to provide, he excelled. He was named salesman of the year several times. Jim worked for 11 years after having both legs amputated. He will never know the kind of positive impression he left on us all. Due to Covid-19, we will not be having a service at this time. Once we can gather in a safe and healthy way, we will celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.thompsonsfuneral.com
