Sara Lyon Timmerman Efron of West Columbia, SC died peacefully at home with her loved ones on January 1, 2021. Sara was born in Atlanta, GA on March 15, 1932 to Dixon Padgett Timmerman and Mary Leslie Lyon Timmerman and was raised in Edgefield, SC. Sara graduated from Edgefield High School and Furman University and taught school at Augusta Circle School in Greenville prior to her marriage. Sara married the love of her life, Dr. Marvin Efron, on June 20, 1956. Together they made their life in West Columbia and were married for 63 years until his death on November 1, 2019. They were the proud parents of Leslie Efron Platt and Susan (Marty) Crouch and grandparents of Austin (Lauren) Harris, Sara Platt, Libby Platt, Charlie Platt, Tori Crouch and Conor Crouch. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Evelyn Bernstein, and loving nieces, nephews and friends. Sara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, her sister, Margaret Rhea Lankford, and her brother Dixon P. Timmerman, Jr. Sara was a beloved Mama and Baba and was known for her delicious cooking and her beautiful handiwork, especially her knitting. You knew she loved you if she gifted you a pair of her hand-knitted slippers. Sara was a gifted musician and loved participating in her church choir for most of her life. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, 1201 Mohawk Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169. Memorials may be made to the Church Choir. The family would like to thank Jenni-Lynn Assisted Living, especially Mr. D. Roberts, for their loving care and to Amedysis Hospice for their help making her final days peaceful at home. The family will have a private graveside service and a Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled at a later date.
