Vivian Caroline Gaughan
November 13th, 1924 - October 1st, 2021
Vivian Caroline Gaughan went to be with the Lord on October 1, 2021. Vivian was the daughter of James George Gaughan and Anne Sarah Heil Gaughan. Vivian was born on November 14, 1924 in Sacramento, CA. Vivian was a long time member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. She was an elementary school teacher in San Diego, CA for 30 years, and an avid singer and voice student. Vivian loved to travel and every summer, joined her sister and brother-in-law in whatever foreign post Col. Carlson was stationed in. She was devoted to her family. A true servant of God, she was always happiest when serving her family. She cared for her elderly mother and father, supported her brother-in-law when he was stricken with Parkinsons Disease, and was always there to support her nieces and nephews. Vivian loved to laugh and was always ready for an outing with her charges, be it to Disneyland or a trip to Baskin-Robbins. Vivian was an avid dog lover. Her poodle, Christie, was a wonderful companion to her in her last years. Vivian was important to so many people. She was a true example of Christ-like love, never seeking recognition, always serving with joy in her heart. We will miss her terribly. Vivian is preceded in death by her parents, James and Anne Gaughan; her beloved nephew, Evans James Carlson; and her brother in law, Col. Evans Charles Carlson. Vivian is survived by her sister, Regina Marie Carlson; her nephews, Thomas Fordyce Carlson, and John F. Loving; her niece, Karen Carlson Loving; grand nieces and nephews, John Claude Loving, Gabriel Loving, Benjamin Loving, Vivian Carlson, Anna Carlson, Jason Carlson; and three great-grand nieces. There will be a viewing and visitation from 12:00-1:00pm on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169, followed by the Memorial Service at 1:00pm. Burial will take place in the church cemetery immediately following the service.
