Doris Callahan Lastinger of West Columbia, SC, died on June 23, 2022. Born on March 1, 1921 in Waycross, GA, she was the daughter of the late Albert (AC) and Lillian Callahan, of Waycross, GA. Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband J.T. to whom she was married for 61 years; her sisters and brothers Pearl Sloan, Myra Hendrix, Julia Wingard, Otis Callahan, Ed Callahan, Carl Callahan, and Kenneth Callahan. She is survived by her children Frank Lastinger (Connie) of West Columbia, Gloria Howard (Skip) of West Columbia, and John Lastinger, Jr. (Robbie) of West Columbia. Grandchildren: Misti Rinehart (John), John Lastinger III (Tiffany), Scott Lastinger (Jessica), Robert Lastinger (Erin), Bradley Lastinger (Mandy), and Whitney Gutierrez (Oscar). She had 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her role as loving wife and mother, she supported her husband as pastor’s wife throughout their ministry together in Georgia and South Carolina. They built and pastored Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church in South Congaree and the Edge Church (formerly New Covenant Church) in West Columbia. Both were graduates of Holmes Bible College in Greenville, SC, and she taught music for several years at Furman University. Doris played an active role in the church, was involved in the ministry playing the piano and organ, and taught Sunday school. Her love of reading and studying made her a wealth of knowledge of the Bible, and her teachings on the Tabernacle and Old Testament will be remembered by all who were part of her classes. Her love of caring for her family involved sewing, gardening, canning, and cooking three meals a day. “Nanny” set an example of a Godly wife, mom, grandmother, and woman of God to all she met. Her impact on lives was far reaching, and she left a mark on all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Edge Church, West Columbia, SC, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 25th. The family will greet friends from 1:45 until 2:45 PM at the church. The committal will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Thompson Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials may be sent to The Edge Church, 3220 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
