Margaret "Nina" Roberts Slovick
June 3rd, 1946 - August 4th, 2022
Margaret Cornelia “Nina” Thorpe Roberts Slovick, 76, of Blythewood, South Carolina, passed away after an extended illness on Thursday, August 4 at MUSC Health Kershaw Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14 at 3:00pm with a service to follow at 5:00pm at Thompson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Burial will be on Monday, August 15 at 12:00pm at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC. Born in Columbia, SC Margaret graduated from Eau Claire High. Shortly after graduation she married her first husband, William Maxie Roberts and moved to Springdale, SC where they raised three daughters. Over the years, Mrs. Slovick was an in-home child care provider and then later operated Nina Roberts Day Care. She also served in the children’s department at Springdale Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Slovick went on to work at Tapp’s Department Store in Columbia, and later retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina. In 1989, Mrs. Slovick married Mr. Daniel F. Slovick and resided in Cayce. In 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Slovick moved to family land in Blythewood to help care for her mother Macie Frick Thorpe. Mrs. Slovick had a calm, sweet spirit and is remembered by her family as a loving wife and mother who enjoyed caring for both children and animals. Mrs. Slovick was predeceased by her parents, Archie S. Thorpe, Sr. and Macie Frick Thorpe; as well as her brother, Archie S. Thorpe, Jr. of Columbia. She is survived by her husband, Daniel F. Slovick of the home; daughters, Gwendolyn R. Vaught (Mike) of West Columbia, Kimberlee R. Bullock (Mark) of Leesville, and Claudette R. King (Robbie) of Lexington. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Dr. Marcus Vaught (Stephanie), Mrs. Heather Catoe (Matt), Mr. Hunter Vaught (Sarah), Mrs. Macy H. Turner (Travis), William Cory King, all of Lexington, and James Ryan King of Greenville, SC; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Mr. Lawrence Thorpe (Donna) of Blythewood; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the South Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association or SPCA.
