Joanne Cox Brooks

Joanne Cox Brooks, 91, of Cayce, SC passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022. A funeral will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at State Street Baptist Church. Family will visit with friends and family beginning at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, NC, or to Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. Joanne was born April 2, 1931, to the late Dessie Jane and Sam Jasper Cox in Loris, SC. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne P. Brooks; brothers, Robert Frankin Cox (Glorious June), Joyce Edison Cox, Daniel Eugene Cox, and William Clay Cox; brother-in-laws, Wilbur Kenneth Rabon, Sr., and Edward Kent Wright, Sr.; and sister-in-law, Ola Hart Clinton Cox. She is survived by brothers, Jerry Joseph Cox (Ann), Jimmy Wayne Cox, and Charles Wendell Cox (Barbara); sisters, Bonnie Frances (Cox) Rabon, Mary Lou (Cox) Wright, Janice Elizabeth (Cox) Rodeffen (Larry); and sister-in-laws, Miriam Williamson Cox, and Sharon Fowler Cox. In Joanne’s free time she enjoyed playing Scrabble with friends and family around the table. It was something that kept her mind sharp after her retirement from teaching. She earned two master’s degrees, Master of Religious Education, and Master of Divinity. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, NC. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
