Gloria Harriott Godley, 91, of West Columbia, died on Monday, July 10, 2023. Born in Brunson, SC on September 1, 1931, she was the daughter of Dred Franklin Harriott and Sarah Heape Harriott. She was raised in the low country of Beaufort County and graduated from Beaufort High School. On June 16, 1949, she married Carlisle Benjamin “Pete” Godley. They were married for 54 years until his death on November 6, 2003. She was a long-time member of Cayce Methodist Church where she was active in many different ministries. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She loved God, her family, and her church family. She felt the love from each of them. She strove to be a blessing to someone each day. She was employed by Lexington District 2 and 1. She retired in 1998 but continued the friendships made with her colleagues at Oak Grove Elementary. It was her joy to deliver Meals on Wheels to the elderly and home bound in her area. To whom much is given much is expected! Gloria is survived by her children, daughters, Susan Harriott Godley Carney (Edward), Lou Anne Godley Oliva (Dan), Sharon Lee Godley Manis (Mitchell); son, Carlisle Benjamin “Kyle” Godley, Jr. (Joey); grandchildren, Lee Erin Carney Fennell (Jay), Jeremy Michael Gould (Michaela), Brett Carney Brown (Kerry), Laurel Ashley Gould Proulx (John), Zachary Ian Manis (Corrie), Lauren Carlisle Manis Lane, Carlisle Brendan Godley, Benjamin Duke Godley, and Molly Delaine Godley; great grandchildren, Jack, Avery and Mills Fennell, Kellen, Laityn and Mila Gould, Quin and Gavin Brown, Jack Proulx, Bonds and Lottie Manis, Jackson, Lucas and Addie Lane. Her family was the love of her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Carlisle Benjamin Godley, and her siblings’, brothers, Dred F. Harriott, Jr., Charles Carlisle Harriott, and John Heape Harriott and sister, Margie Lee Harriott Bowers. Funeral services will be at Cayce United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM, with the Reverends’ Meghan Cook and Michael Henderson officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM at Cayce United Methodist Church, 1600 12th Street, Cayce, SC. Following the funeral service, she will be laid to rest by her beloved husband at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank all of Gloria’s friends for their love, especially Judy Pooser who gave her so much joy in life and acknowledge appreciation to the staff of Laurel Crest Retirement Community for their care and compassion to their mother. Memorials may be made to Cayce United Methodist Church, 1600 12th Street, Cayce, SC 29033.
