Dorothy Hegwood Miller
February 13th, 1933 - April 7th, 2024
Dorothy "Dot" Hegwood Miller, a beloved family matriarch and cherished community figure, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 7, 2024, in South Carolina at the age of 91. Born in Moultrie, Georgia in 1933, Dot was a proud graduate of the Moultrie High School Class of 1950. Dot's life was a rich tapestry of service and adventure. As a dedicated military wife, she supported her family through the Vietnam and Korean War with unwavering strength and grace. Her role as a civil servant highlighted her deep commitment to caring for others, a trait that defined much of her life's work. A seasoned world traveler, Dot brought back souvenirs, stories, and a broadened perspective that she shared with all who knew her. She was the family historian, keeping the flames of heritage and legacy alive for her descendants to cherish. Dot's volunteering spirit was matched only by her vibrant personality—funny, beautiful, stylish, and kind. She touched the lives of many, whether through her laughter, elegant sense of style, or generous heart. She leaves behind her son, Joe Ellis Miller; grandson, Jack Ellis Miller; great-granddaughter, Arianna “Gracie” Grace Miller; and a community that will deeply miss her warmth and light. Dot's life was a lesson in love and resilience, and her legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her. Family, friends, and loved ones are invited to a memorial in her honor on May 3rd at 10 a.m. (viewing at 10, service at 11) at the Thompson Funeral Home at 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Dorothy's final resting place will be with her late husband, Joe Ellis Miller, at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. Dot Miller will be remembered not just for the life she led, but for the love she shared.
