1SG (Ret.) Aaron Duane Johnson, Sr., 54, gained his wings on Sunday, May 5, 2024. He was born September 10, 1969, in Orange County, California, to Shirley Ann Sanders and the late Ronald Troy Johnson. Aaron’s legacy lives on through his Wife, Marshan Akeba Johnson; Sons, Aaron D. Johnson II, Jeaden A. Johnson, and Jeade Davis; Daughters, Nayonna S. Johnson and Alanna S. Johnson; and Grandson, Jaye M. Atkins from South Carolina; Mother, Shirley A. Sanders from Topeka, Kansas; Sister, Ronda Johnson from Tulsa, Oklahoma; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. His legacy continues through his Military family, work family, and cherished friends. Aaron was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church at a young age. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Topeka High School and Grambling State University with his bachelor’s degree. Aaron was a veteran who served 20 years for our country and retired Honorably on January 31, 2013. He received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star (2nd Award), Joint Service Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award), Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal w/ Bronze Service Star, Armed Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Two Campaign Stars, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal (AFSM), Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), NATO Medal (3rd Award), Expert Marksmanship Badge w/ Pistol Bar, Expert Marksmanship Badge w/ Rifle Bar, and Driver and Mechanic Badge w/ Driver-Wheeled Vehicle(s) ClasP. He was working at Mark Anthony Brewing until the time of his passing. He remained a mentor and a supporter of others every day of his life. Aaron was the most amazing love, best friend, husband to his wife, amazing father to his children, Papa to his grandson, loving son (baby boy), brother, cousin, and friend. He was passionate about helping others, fishing, working in the yard, smiling, loving his family, and LIVING THE DREAM. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him. Services to honor Aaron’s life and legacy will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Visitation starts at 11:00 am. His service is at 12:00 pm. We will then follow Aaron to Ft. Jackson National Cemetery for his last salute at his honors burial, which begins at 2:00 pm.
