Rebecca "Becky" Swain
May 29th, 1952 - April 1st, 2021
In the early hours of April 1, 2021, Rebecca “Becky” Swain answered the Holy Fathers call to join him in his Kingdom of Heaven. A devoted wife, daughter, “big” sister, beloved relative, and cherished friend to many, she will be truly missed by all. Born in Siloam, KY, she moved to the Midlands as a child and spent her adult life in Columbia, SC. After graduating from Lower Richland High School, she began a 30-year career working as an operator/technician for BellSouth (AT&T). Becky was an avid animal lover and prior to her illness, spent much of her time taking walks with and caring for her beloved pets, which she considered to be her “children”, even going as far as to sending greeting cards from her “children” to her human family members on birthdays and holidays. Becky was a devoted Catholic and attended Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia for many years up until she was physically unable to attend services. Becky leaves behind her cherished and beloved husband of 38 years, Gary J. Swain; her mother, Peggy C. Scott of Columbia; her sister, Reta Burnett (Warren) of Lexington; brothers, William R. Scott (Kim) of Sumter and Adam C. Scott of Columbia; and niece, Tricia Burnett of Lexington; along with her dear Aunt Pat and many other treasured relatives. Becky was blessed with many friends throughout her life, including her dear friends, Terri, Patricia, the Crosby brothers and their wives. Becky was predeceased by her stepfather, Walter H. Scott, and sister, Patricia A. Scott. A service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10:30am in the chapel at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC. To view the service via TribuCast, please click here or the following url: https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/351433369. A private Interment will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Becky’s favorite charities: PETSinc of West Columbia, SC, The Animal Mission of Columbia, SC, or to an animal rescue shelter of your choice. The family wishes to thank our many relatives, friends, and neighbors for their prayers and for their words of kindness expressed during our time of loss.

We Entrusted Rebecca "Becky" Swain's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
