The Island Funeral Home & Crematory
Sharon Lynn Rogers
December 9th, 1970 - July 26th, 2021
Sharon Lynn Rogers, age 50, went to be with the Lord on July 26th, 2021. She was born in Macon, Georgia on her grandmother, Laura Mae Rogers’ birthday. Sharon was the only child of Kimball Burkett & Walter Rogers. Sharon grew up in Norcross, Georgia near Atlanta. In 1995 she graduated with a Bachelors of Business Management from the University of South Carolina where she was a member of the Business Club and Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society. In 1990 Sharon moved to Hilton Head Island where she spent the rest of her years. She started her career on the island as a nanny then moved on to Director of Operations at Oceanfront Rentals. Through the years she continued a successful career in the sales and rental property fields. Sharon never met a stranger and was always full of life in her unofficial role as ambassador to Hilton Head Island tourists. While on the island, she was President of the Kiwanis (2003-2005) and served 15 years on the Home and Villa Committee. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church and was an accounting volunteer in the years 1997 to 2001 for the Van Landingham Rotary Boys and Girls Club Auction. Being athletic, she enjoyed tennis, biking, and kayaking; yet she was often found sunning by the pool or traveling. She was a lover of music and dancing. As a huge canine fan she supported the Humane Society by adopting rescue dogs. She was a loving mother, daughter, niece, cousin and step-daughter. Sharon was a beautiful, loving & giving soul with a zest for life. You could count on her friendship. Her pride and joy was her beautiful daughter, Lauren. The beauty of Sharon could be seen in her daughter in every pageant, gymnastic event, volley ball game, cheerleading performance and ballet recital performed. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Rogers; her maternal grandparents, George & Nell Burkett; paternal grandparents, Ray & Laura Mae Rogers; and daughter Lauren’s father, Neil Wingate. She is survived by her daughter, Lauren Wingate; her mother and step-father, Kimball Burkett & Ted Ballard; sister, Michelle Flowers, step-mother Cindy Rogers; and step-brother, William Voorhies; step-sister, Aimee Foley as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Sharon is also survived by dear friends, two of whom stood by her through it all the longest, Beth Douglas and Gina Griffin Gilliam. On Saturday December 4, 2021 a memeorial for Sharon Lynn Rogers will be held at the First Baptist Church of Hilton Head. This will be a celebration of Sharon's life and her love for this island. The service will begin at 11 am. Let us lift up our voices and celebrate the joy she brought to so many. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made for her daughter, Lauren Wingate through https://everloved.com/life-of… or a gift can be sent to your local Humane Society. The family would be grateful if you could also leave a memory or share pictures of you and Sharon on the website.
